Co-Dergocrine Mesilate 0.3 mg Injection available by brand name Hydergine 0.3 mg Injection belongs to the group of ergot alkaloid.

Uses:

Co-Dergocrine Mesilate 0.3 mg injection works by expanding the blood vessels of the brain in order to increase the utilization of oxygen. Various uses of the medicine are:

• For the treatment of age related dementia.
• For the treatment of Alzheimer’s disease.
• For treating strokes and head injury.

 

Dosage:

Dosage of Hydergine 0.3 mg injection tablets vary depending upon the age of the patient. General dosage is as follows:

• Adults- 4.5-12 mg per day for 6 months.
• Above 60 years- 4.5-12 mg per day in every 8 hours for 6 months.

 

Caution-

The medicine is not safe for the use of children.

 

Side effects:

Side effects caused by Hydergine 0.3 mg injection tablets can be sometimes very serious. Side effects caused by the drug are:

• Nausea
• Vomiting
• Dizziness
• Drowsiness
• Appetite loss
• Blurred vision
• Diarrhoea
• Flushing
• Allergies such as rash
• Stuffy nose
• Lightheadedness
• Reduced heart rate
• Fainting

 

Precautions and measures:

Although serious side effects caused by Co-Dergocrine Mesilate 0.3 mg injection are very rare but precautions should be taken such as:

• Inform your doctor if you are allergic to the active ingredient of the medicine.
• The medicine should be taken before meal.
• The drug causes dizziness and drowsiness. Driving, alcohol intake and operating heavy machines are not recommended while being on the medication.
• Inform your doctor prior if you have any heart related problems as the drug may elevate the problem.
• Inform your doctor if you suffer from any liver problem.
• If you have any vision problem, let your doctor know because the drug may cause blurred vision.
• Inform your doctor if you are pregnant as the drug may harm the foetus.
• If you are breastfeeding, tell your doctor as the drug passes to the new born baby via breast milk and can cause harm.
• The medicine is not recommended for the children below 16 years of age.
