The Gemcitabine 200mg, 1000mg Injection is an Anti Cancer drug. It belongs to the class of Antimetabolite and Antineoplastic drugs. It is known by the name Gemzar in international pharmacies. Gemcite is the Indian brand name for this drug.

Purpose:

  • Gemcitabine 200mg, 1000mg Injection is used to treat breast cancer in combination with Paclitaxel.
  • Ovarian cancer is treated in combination with Carboplatin.
  • Bladder and non-small cell lung cancer is treated alone with Gemzar injection.
  • Metastatic adenocarcinoma of the pancreas is also treated by this solution.

 

Mechanism:

Gemcite injection blocks the growth of RNA and DNA of cancer cells by obstructing their building blocks. This prevents the multiplication and growth of cancer cells.

 

Dosage:

  • Strictly as prescribed by your doctor.
  • The recommended dosage for effective results is 1000mg on days 1 and 8, of each 21-day cycle, for non-small lung cancer patients.
  • The recommended dosage for effective results is 1250 mg, on days 1 and 8, of each 21-day cycle, for breast cancer patients.

 

Side effects:

  • Common side effects of Gemcitabine 200mg, 1000mg Injection are: hot flashes, headache, constipation, diarrhoea, nausea, vomiting, redness at the site of injection, trouble in sleeping, upset stomach.
  • Serious side effects of Gemcite include anxiety, depression, a cough that doesn’t go away, sore throat, persistent fever, frequent urination, shortness of breath, joint pain, mood changes, and tingling of arms. If you experience any of them, consult your doctor right away.
  • Asthenia, musculoskeletal pain, myalgia, arthralgia, flu syndrome, pelvic pain, urinary tract infection, anorexia, and leukopenia are some other side effects of this injection.

 

Precautions and measures:

  • If you have a medical history of a bleeding disorder, blood clotting, liver or kidney disease, inform your doctor before taking Gemcite injection.
  • If you’ve ever had thrombocytopenia that is low platelet count, your doctor should know about it.
  • Women should not get pregnant during the tenure of Gemcitabine 200mg, 1000mg Injection.
  • Do not use estrogen-based birth control alternatives.
  • Breastfeeding should be prohibited during the tenure of this drug and at least for a year once the medication has stopped.
  • If this injection is being used in combination with ribocilib, palbociclib, or abemaciclib, refer to the full prescribing information for patient counselling information.
  • Needles after use should not be recapped.
  • Special care should be taken to not to intervene in injection into the blood vessel.
  • Keep it away from light.
