Purpose

Aluminium hydroxide 100 mg + Magnesium trisilicate 25 mg +  Sodium bicarbonate 170 mg + Alginic acid 500 mg tablets came under the brand name of Gaviscon. They are usually used to treat the symptoms of stomach tension caused by high acid generation. The symptoms can be stomach upset, acid indigestion, and heartburn. The components like magnesium and Aluminium antacids work in this direction in a faster way. Themedicine is available in both forms: liquid and tablets. But, the liquid form is more preferable. However, the tablets also show good signs of treatment when taken appropriately by the patient.

 

How Gaviscon tablets works?

TheAluminium hydroxide 100 mg + Magnesium trisilicate 25 mg + Sodium bicarbonate 170 mg + Alginic acid 500 mg tablets work on the existing acid of the stomach. The medicine quickly lowers the acid amount in the stomach. Hence, the preferable acid environment is maintained in the stomach.  Gaviscon tablets can be used alone or with other medicines that help in lowering the acid amount in the stomach.

 

Measures and Precautions

  1. The Gaviscontablets is taken orally, after meals, and at bedtime, as preferred by the patient.
  2. While taking theAluminium hydroxide 100 mg + Magnesium trisilicate 25 mg + Sodium bicarbonate 170 mg + Alginic acid 500 mg  tablets, he or she should follow all guidelines of the doctor or the directions mentioned in the packet of the medicine.
  3. Don’t swallow the tablets; instead, chew them thoroughly to make them more effective.
  4. When used in liquid form, do shake the bottle well before using it. As per preference, patients can also mix water to make it work best.
  5. Before consuming the Gaviscon tablets make sure you don’t have any allergies to magnesium and Aluminium hydroxides. If any found, immediately report it to the doctor.
  6. Pregnant women can consume these tablets when needed. No need to consume the tablets when not required.
  7. Do not lower or increase doseswithouta doctor’s recommendation. It may make you more prone to side-effects.
  8. Breast-feeding women should also not take these tablets as the tablets can pass easily through breast milk which is dangerous to young ones.

The antacids in this medicine interact with drug supplements like sodium polystyrene sulphonate, and potassium phosphate. Aluminium hydroxide 100 mg + Magnesium trisilicate 25 mg +  Sodium bicarbonate 170 mg + Alginic acid 500 mg tablets also interfere with the absorption of some other drugs like ciprofloxacin, tetracycline antibodies, digoxin, pazopanib, and quinolone. The interactions happen to prevent the full absorption ofthetablets in the patient’s body.
