Gentamycin 20 mg, 60 mg, 80 mg Injection available by brand name Garamycin 20 mg, 60 mg, 80 mg Injection is an aminoglycoside antibiotic.
Uses:
Gentamycin 20 mg, 60 mg, 80 mg Injection is used to treat wide range of serious bacterial injections. It works by inhibiting the growth of bacteria causing the infection.
- For the treatment of meningitis.
- For the treatment of infection of blood, skin, bones, joints, and urinary tract.
- For the treatment of pelvic inflammatory disease, plague and sexually transmitted disease (in some cases).
Dosage:
Garamycin 20 mg, 60 mg, 80 mg Injection is administered intravenously or intramuscularly. The dosage of the injection varies depending upon the age and severity of the infection.
- Susceptible infections- Adult- 3-5 mg/kg/day in every 8 hours.
- Children- 2 to 2.5 mg/kg/day in every 8 hours.
- Cystic fibrosis- 7.5-10.5 mg/kg/day in every 8 hours
- Pelvic inflammatory disease- 2 mg/kg in every 8 hours.
Side effects:
Side effects caused by Garamycin 20 mg, 60 mg, 80 mg Injection are both major and minor. In most of the cases patients do not experience any serious side effect. Consult your doctor if symptom persists.

- Inform your doctor beforehand if you are allergic to the active ingredients of the injection.
- If you suffer from any hearing problem, tell your doctor as the drug may elevate the symptoms (in rare cases may lead to hearing loss).
- Inform your doctor if you suffer from kidney problems or Parkinson’s disease.
- Do not get vaccinated if you are on this medication as the drug interacts with the vaccine letting it to not work properly.
- The medicine is not safe for unborn and new born babies. Confirm your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
- If you had/have cystic fibrosis or muscle problems, let your doctor know.
- The medicine causes dizziness and drowsiness. Do not drink, drive or operate heavy machines while being on the medication.
