Formoterol 12mcg Capsules is an Anti Asthmatic agent. It has an active ingredient involved, formoterol fumarate, which prevents breathing problems. It belongs to the category of bronchodilators. Internationally, this medicine is available by the name of Foradil Aerolizer, and in India, it is known as Foratec.

Purpose:

Formoterol 12mcg Capsules are used for:

  • Treatment of asthma.
  • Treating chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).
  • Decreasing wheezing, emphysema, and chronic bronchitis.

Mechanism:

Foratec capsules undergo agonist activity along with beta2 and beta1 receptors, which with their beta-adrenergic energy improves the functioning of the lungs. It relaxes the muscles and widens the airways.

 

Dosage:

  • Strictly as prescribed by your doctor.
  • For Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease: 12 mcg, every 12 hours.
  • For Chronic bronchitis: 12mcg, once daily.
  • It can be taken with or without food.
  • For Asthma, the dose differs from person to person as per their medical condition, and response to the treatment.

Side effects:

  • Common side effects of Formoterol 12mcg Capsules are headache, viral infection, pharyngitis, fatigue, coughing, sinusitis, dizziness, lightheadedness, and nausea.
  • Serious side effects of Foratec are immunosuppression, glaucoma, and cataracts, epistaxis, ulcerations, Candida albicans infection, impaired wound healing, Hypothalamic-Pituitary-Adrenal axis effects, including growth reduction.
  • Rare side effects of Foradil Aerolizer are vision problems, swelling of feet, blood-tinged mucus, increased urination, and trouble breathing.
  • Muscle cramps and Bronchospams might be experienced by the patient.
  • If any of the above-mentioned effects persist for long, consult your doctor right away.

Precautions and measures:

  • If you have had a medical history of cataracts, glaucoma, tuberculosis, herpes eye infection, ulcers, or any recent surgery, inform your doctor about the same, before starting with Mometasone furoate 50mcg puff nasal spray, 100 metered doses.
  • In unlikely cases, due to the prolonged use of Foratec, the child’s growth might be hindered.
  • Formoterol 12mcg Capsules should not be used in the presence of untreated localized infection involving the nasal mucosa.
  • Patients suffering from untreated fungal, bacteria, systemic viral infections, or ocular herpes simplex should use the Momeflo drug under the strict guidance of their doctor.
  • Use of excessive doses may suppress the Hypothalamic-Pituitary-Adrenal axis function.
  • Pregnant and lactating women should only use Momeflo drug if prescribed by the doctor.
  • Make sure you gargle with warm water, on alternate days, during the tenure of this medication.
  • These capsules do not show sudden results, hence in case of emergency, use your inhaler.

It works best if taken before a workout, or any other heavy physical activity.
