Details
Finasteride 5mg tablets are usually used to shrink oversized or enlarged prostate glands in men. It is available under the brand name Proscar internationally. Its Indian name is Fincar.
Uses
- Finasteride 5mg tablets improve some symptoms of BPH (Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia).
- It is used for decreasing the urge to urinate.
- It also helps better the urine flow with less straining.
- Proscar helps to reduce frequent urination during the night.
Side effects
Common side effects:
- Skin rashes
- Lots of trouble in getting or keeping an erection
- Ejaculation disorder
- Mostly decrease in sex drive
- Enlargement in breast size and tenderness
Serious side effects:
- Nipple discharge
- Lump formation or pain in your breasts
- Depression and mood swings
- Swelling of lips, throat, face or tongue
Dosage
- Usually, for adults, it is prescribed to consume up to 5mg daily.
- For children under 18 years, it has not yet been proven to be safe. So, Fincar is not recommended to be used by children.
- If a person forgets his dose, he should not compensate for it by eating two doses at once. Take only one dose at the specific time of your next one.
Precautions
- Fincar is used as a long-term treatment. It also comes with serious risks if you don’t take it as prescribed by your doctor.
- This medication should not be consumed by a patient suffering from prostate cancer. It may cause it to grow at a faster pace causing more severe issues.
- Before taking Finasteride 5mg tablets it is wise to tell your doctor if you are allergic to this medication or any ingredient that it contains.
- If you are suffering from any liver disease, this medication might be fatal as it will be processed more slowly by your body leading to its build-up causing serious side effects.
- Fincar tablets are not meant to be given to children.
- This drug can be mildly absorbed through the skin. If the film coating of this tablet has been broken or the tablet is crushed, throw it and wash your skin.
- It should not be considered by a woman planning to become pregnant.
- Exposing a developing male infant to Finasteride can also result in mild to major abnormalities of the genitals.
Finasteride 5mg tablets should not be used in women when they are pregnant or breast-feeding. It may majorly harm an unborn or breast-feeding baby. Consulting your doctor if you have any questions about this medication is necessary.
