Drug Name: Fulvestrant 250mg Injection
Details
Fulvestrant 250mg Injection is an AntiCancer drug. It blocks the estrogen. If your metastatic breast cancer is HR-positive and HER2-negative, this injection should be used for the treatment and if it has not been treated with endocrine therapy previously. Faslodex is the universal name of this mediation by which it is available in the medical market.
Purpose:
- It treats breast cancer in women who have experienced menopause.
- It adjusts the level of estrogen.
- Faslodex slows down the growth of cancer cells.
- Any breast lumps, changes in the shape or texture of the breast, and bloody discharge from nipples are cured by this injection.
Dosage:
- As per the indication of your physician/doctor.
- The recommended dosage of Fulvestrant 250mg Injection is 500mg to be injected intramuscularly into the buttocks.
- The time period should be of day: 1st, 15th, and 29th.
- It can also be given every 2 weeks for the first 3 doses and then continuing it monthly.
Side effects:
- Common side effects of Faslodex are: hot flashes, headache, constipation, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, redness at the site of injection, trouble in sleeping, upset stomach.
- Serious side effects include: anxiety, depression, cough that doesn’t go away, sore throat, persistent fever, frequent urination, shortness of breath, joint pain, mood changes, and tingling of arms. If you experience any of them, consult your doctor right away.
- Asthenia, musculoskeletal pain, myalgia, arthralgia, flu syndrome, pelvic pain, urinary tract infection, anorexia, and leukopenia are some other side effects of this injection.
Precautions and measures:
- If you have a medical history of bleeding disorder, blood clotting, liver or kidney disease, inform it to your doctor before taking Fulvestrant 250mg Injection.
- If you’ve ever had thrombocytopenia that is low platelet count, your doctor should know about it.
- Women should not get pregnant during the tenure of Faslodex.
- Do not use estrogen-based birth control alternatives.
- Breastfeeding should be prohibited during the tenure of this drug and at least for a year once the medication has stopped.
- If this injection is being used in combination with riboci lib, palbociclib, or abemaciclib, refer to Full Prescribing Information for Patient Counseling Information.
- Needles after use should not be recapped.
- Special care should be taken to not to intervene in injection into the blood vessel.
- Keep it away from light.
- Store it at a cool temperature.
- It is not meant for any female who has not yet reached the stage of menopause.
Interactions:
Fulvestrant 250mg Injection can affect certain lab tests such as estradiol levels and resulting in false reports.
