Pioglitazone 30mg + Metformin 500mg Tablets are an antidiabetic agent. They are an inhibitor of the dipeptidyl peptidase-4 enzyme. This medicine is known by the name Actoplus met XR internationally. And in India, it is known by the name Exermet – P 530.

Purpose:

• Pioglitazone 30mg + Metformin 500mg Tablets are used to treat Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus by lowering and balancing the blood sugar level.
• Other problems like blindness, kidney damage, loss of limbs, nerve problems, and sexual function problems are also controlled by this medication.
• Adjuvant therapy in insulin-dependent diabetes especially if overweight.

 

Mechanism:

• Actoplus met XR tablets slow down the action of certain enzymes that break down food into sugars. Because of this, the digestion of carbohydrates slows down and prevents your blood sugar level from rising high after you eat.
• More insulin is produced in the pancreas, and excess sugar is reduced in the liver.

 

Dosage:

• Strictly as prescribed by your doctor.
• The treatment varies from person to person, based on their age, health condition, and response to the treatment.
• The recommended dosage for effective results is one dose of Pioglitazone 30mg + Metformin 500mg Tablets daily.

 

Side effects:

• Common side effects of Exermet – P 530 medicine are nausea, flatulence, diarrhea, stomachache, sore throat, stuffy nose, respiratory tract infection, and vomiting.
• Serious side effects are swelling in the stomach, yellowing of skin or eyes, swelling of the skin, and pneumatosis cystoides intestinalis.
• A rare but serious condition of lactic acidosis might develop, where the lactic acid in the blood increases. Consult your doctor immediately if this happens.
• Hypoglycemia (low blood sugar level).

 

Precautions:

• People suffering from diabetic ketoacidosis should not consume these tablets.
• Patients with liver cirrhosis or other liver disorders are advised not to undergo this medication as it may only worsen the situation.
• Low blood sugar can develop if people who are on insulin or sulfonylurea takeExermet – P 530.

Interactions:

Some medications can affect the blood sugar level, and increase it rapidly, such as metoprolol, and propranolol. Therefore, avoid taking them with Pioglitazone 30mg + Metformin 500mg Tablets.
