Rivastigmine 1.5mg, 3mg, 4.5mg, 6mg Capsules are meant for neurodegenerative disease. They belong to the class of Acetylcholinesterase Inhibitors, Central; Cholinesterase Inhibitors. Exelon is the universal name of this drug by which it is available in the medical market.

Purpose:

  • Rivastigmine 1.5mg, 3mg, 4.5mg, 6mg Capsules are used to treat dementia-related Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s disease.
  • It improves the awareness, memory, and the ability to perform daily functions.

 

Mechanism:

Exelon tablets enhance cholinergic function and increase the concentration of acetylcholine. The balance of neurotransmitters (natural substances) in the brain is restored by this drug.

 

Dosage:

  • Strictly as prescribed by your doctor.
  • The recommended initial dose should be 1.5 mg twice a day.
  • After 2 weeks, the dose can be increased to 3 mg twice a day, and subsequently to 4.5 mg and then 6 mg twice a day.
  • The maximum dose should not increase by 12 mg a day.

 

Side effects:

  • Common side effects of these capsules are diarrhea, nausea, weight loss, loss of appetite, dizziness, weakness, tremors, and drowsiness.
  • Serious side effects are fainting, seizures, black stools, vomit that looks like coffee grounds, severe abdominal pain, trouble urinating, trouble breathing, and swelling in the throat or on the face.
  • If any of the above-mentioned side effects persist for long, or bother you, consult your doctor as early as possible.

 

Precautions and measures:

  • If you have had a medical history of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, asthma, bleeding in intestines, ulcers, conduction disorders, sick sinus syndrome, or enlarged prostate, inform your doctor about the same before getting on the medication of Exelon tablets.
  • Limit your intake of alcohol and marijuana as it can lead to extreme dizziness and sleepiness.
  • Use of Rivastigmine 1.5mg, 3mg, 4.5mg, 6mg Capsules during pregnancy should be under the strict guidance of the doctor.
  • Antacids can be administered during the tenure of this drug.
  • Do not increase, decrease, or stop the dose at your own convenience.
  • Do not crush, break, or split the tablet.
  • Do not use expired medication.
  • Patients with renal impairment are advised to take a lower dose than normal.
  • Store the tablets at room temperature.

 

Interactions:

  • Some drugs that can interact with Rivastigmine 1.5mg, 3mg, 4.5mg, 6mg Capsules are Metoclopramide, Naproxen, and Ibuprofen.

Some drugs can increase the risk of intestinal bleeding if taken along with Exelon such as Aspirin.
