Hydroquinone 4% Cream is used to treat hyperpigmentation of skin caused due to pregnancy or use of birth control pills. It is sold under the brand names Solaquin and Eldoquin all over the world. In India, it is popularly known as Eukroma.

 

Uses:

  • Eldoquin is used as a skin whitening agent.
  • It is also used to treat freckles, age spots and melisma.

 

How does it work?

Melanocytes produce melanin which is responsible for the colouration of skin of an individual. So, when the Solaquin cream is applied, it inhibits the production of melanin in the body resulting in the decrease of the dark spots and hyperpigmentation.

 

How is it administered?

  • This cream should be used as directed by the physician even though it is well-tolerated by most individuals.
  • Do a patch test on other parts of your skin before applying over the affected area.
  • You need to apply Eukroma cream twice a day to get better results.
  • It is meant for external use only.
  • Your skin will become sensitive to sunlight while using this cream. So, always use sunscreen while going out during the day.
  • Avoid using the product at the areas near your eyes or nose and if it accidentally comes in contact with your eyes then wash them with cold water.
  • Regular use of the product will provide you with fast and best results.

 

Side Effects:

  • Hydroquinone 4% Cream when applied shows some minor side effects such as itching, redness, burning sensation, and also swelling on that particular area where it is applied.
  • Some adverse effects can also occur if used for a long time such as blue-black patches on the skin, blisters, etc., which indicates immediate doctor’s consult.
  • Hypersensitivity reactions could also be observed.
