Etizolam 0.5mg, 1mg Tablets belong to the Thienodiazepine class of drugs. It differs from benzodiazepines by having a thiophene group in the structure. It is known by the name Depas and Pasaden internationally. In India, it is popularly called Etilaam.

Uses:

  • Depas is used for the treatment of insomnia.
  • It can also be used as hypnotics, sedatives.

 

How does it work?

Etizolam 0.5mg, 1mg Tablets act upon GABA receptors specifically GABA-A receptors. When the drug is administered into the body it acts by increasing the inhibitor GABA transmission in the brain resulting in the opening of chloride channels and showing its action. It is a selective agonist.

 

Dosage:

  • The dosage of Pasaden drug varies according to the condition and age of the patient, so a doctor’s prescription is advised.
  • It is taken with or without food at a minimum dose of 0.5mg twice a day or as prescribed by the doctor.
  • This medication is taken orally because of its good absorbent capacity.
  • You should take the drug at the given specific time daily for better and fast results.
  • You should complete the course of Etilaam tablets even if you feel better. Do not stop using the drug without consulting your doctor.

 

Side effects:

  • The primary side effects of Etilaam drug include drowsiness, headache, fatigue, etc.,
  • You may also observe muscle weakness, libido and if these conditions worsen then you need to consult your physician and stop the medication immediately.
  • Mood swings, depression, visual defects indicate stopping the use of this medication.

 

Contraindications

  • It is strictly prohibited for patients who have a neurological disorder, porphyria, and glaucoma.

Etilaam is not given to patients who have liver and renal impairments due to the toxicity effects of the drug.
