Levothyroxine 25mcg, 50mcg, 75mcg, 88mcg, 100mcg, 112mcg, 125mcg, 137mcg, 150mcg, 175mcg, 200mcg, 300mcg Tablets are thyroid hormone medication that is used to treat hypothyroidism (underactive thyroid) and other conditions. Internationally it is known as Synthroid. And in India, it is known by the name of Eltroxin.

Purpose:

  • Synthroid is a replacement therapy in hypothalamic (tertiary), pituitary (secondary), and thyroidal (primary) acquired hypothyroidism or congenital.
  • In the management of thyrotropin-dependent well-differentiated thyroid cancer, it is indicated as an adjunct to radioiodine therapy and surgery.

 

Mechanism:

Hypothyroidism is a condition in which a person’s thyroid hormone production decreases. Eltroxin provides support to the thyroid hormone and increases the production of it, via the thyroid gland. This way, physical activity, and normal mental health are maintained.

 

Dosage:

  • Strictly as prescribed by your doctor.
  • There is no ideal recommended dose for Levothyroxine 25mcg, 50mcg, 75mcg, 88mcg, 100mcg, 112mcg, 125mcg, 137mcg, 150mcg, 175mcg, 200mcg, 300mcg Tablets.
  • For effective results, swallow a single tablet, one hour prior to breakfast, on an empty stomach.
  • For infants, Eltroxin can be crushed, mixed in 1-2 teaspoons of water, and then given with a spoon.

 

Side effects:

  • Common side effects of Levothyroxine 25mcg, 50mcg, 75mcg, 88mcg, 100mcg, 112mcg, 125mcg, 137mcg, 150mcg, 175mcg, 200mcg, 300mcg Tablets are fever, fatigue, excessive sweating, weight loss, and heat intolerance.
  • Other side effects include dyspnea, hyperactivity, anxiety, insomnia, palpitations, tachycardia, angina, cardiac arrest, arrhythmias, increased blood pressure and pulse, menstrual irregularity, abdominal cramps, decreased bone mineral density, hair loss, impaired fertility, and elevation in liver function tests.
  • If any of the above-mentioned effects show up, consult your doctor right away, before the situation worsens.

 

Precautions and measures:

  • Inform your doctor if you have had a medical history of increased thyroid hormones, decreased adrenal gland function, coronary artery disease, irregular heartbeat, high blood pressure, or diabetes, before starting with this medication.

  • It can be used during pregnancy, but before that, consult your doctor for the risks and benefits involved.
  • This drug passes into breast milk but is certainly harmless.
  • Keep it away from kids and pets.
  • Do not use expired medication.

 

Interactions:

Some products like blood thinners (warfarin), sucroferric oxyhydroxide, and digoxin might react with Eltroxin, and produce negative reactions.
