Eflornithine HCl 13.9% Cream is used to reduce and ultimately stop the growth of unwanted facial hair. It is sold under the brand name Eflora in India and is known as Ornidyl worldwide. It acts by reducing the growth of hair at its site of action.     

How does it work?

There is no specific and detailed study about how Eflornithine HCl 13.9% Cream works. It is an irreversible ornithine decarboxylase inhibitor. When the cream is applied it works by inhibiting ODC activity of the enzyme which in turn reduces the growth of the hair.

 

Dosage:

  • Consult your doctor before applying the Eflornithine HCl 13.9% Cream because the physician prescription is necessary.
  • You need to apply a thin layer of the cream where you see the growth of unwanted hair( on the face only) and rub it.
  • You shouldn’t wash your face until 4 to 6 hours.
  • The cream should be used twice a day for better results or can be used as directed by the doctor.
  • It is best effective when used after hair removal techniques.
  • You can even apply your cosmetics over this cream.
  • Eflora cream shows results after 2 weeks but effective results can be seen after 120 days.

 

Side effects:

  • As the Eflora cream is applied on the face it shows some of the mild symptoms such as irritation at the site of application, burning sensation, rashes. If these symptoms continue then consult your doctor.
  • Acne problems, skin bleeding can also be seen if you are allergic to the cream and an indication that the medication needs to be stopped.
  • There are no major problems with Eflornithine HCl 13.9% Cream because it is effective for the majority of the patients.
  • You can also observe itching, swelling at the site of application which occurs due to allergic reactions.

       

Precautions:

  • Do let your doctor know if you are allergic to Ornidyl or any ingredients used in the cream.
  • Inform your doctor beforehand if you are having any kind of swelling or cuts at the site of application.
  • There are no harmful effects found in lactating mothers applying the cream but consult your doctor before usage.
  • It is contraindicated in pregnant women even though the studies suggest that there are no harmful effects found.

  • Eflora cream is meant for external use only, so use it as a facial hair removal cream.
