Duloxetine 20mg, 30mg, 60mg Capsules are Antidepressant agents. It belongs to the category of Serotonin-Norepinephrine Reuptake Inhibitors (SNRIs). The active ingredient in these tablets is Duloxetine Hydrochloride. Cymbalta is the international name of this medication. However, in Indian pharmacies, it is available by the name of Dutin.
Purpose:
- The main usage of this medicine is to treat Major Depressive Disorder (MDD).
Other conditions that can be treated with the help of Duloxetine 20mg, 30mg, 60mg Capsules are:
- Diabetic peripheral neuropathic pain in adults
- Chronic musculoskeletal pain in adults
- Fibromyalgia in pediatric patients and adults above 13 years of age
- Generalized anxiety disorder in adults and pediatric patients of 7 years of age or above
Mechanism:
The working of Dutin is related to the activity in the Central Nervous System (CNS) by the potentiation of noradrenergic and serotonergic.
Dosage:
- For Major Depressive Disorder in adults:40 mg per day, to be given as 20 mg, twice daily. It can be increased to 60 mg per day, given as 30 mg, twice daily, if needed.
- For Generalized Anxiety Disorder: 30 mg, once daily for one week, to help the patient adjust to Dutin, before increasing the dose to 60 mg.
- Peripheral Neuropathic pain in adults: 60 mg once daily.
- For Fibromyalgia patients: Initial dose of Cymbalta should start with 30 mg, once daily, for one week. It can be gradually increased to 60 mg, once daily, if needed.
- For Musculoskeletal Pain in adults: 30 mg, once daily for one week, to help the patient adjust to, Duloxetine 20mg, 30mg, 60mg Capsules, before increasing the dose to 60 mg.
Side effects:
- Common side effects of this medication are: diarrhea, dry mouth, nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite, drowsiness, constipation, or increased sweating.
- Increased Risk of Bleeding
- Urinary Hesitation and Retention
- Discontinuation Syndrome
- Angle-Closure Glaucoma
- Orthostatic Hypotension, Falls and Syncope
- Hepatotoxicity
- Hyponatremia
- Clinically Important Drug Interactions
- Severe side effects of Duloxetine 20mg, 30mg, 60mg Capsules are muscle spasms, influenza, tremors, somnolence, seizures, convulsions, hyperhidrosis, bruxism, abnormal dreams, orthostatic hypotension, peripheral coldness among others.
Precautions and measures:
- The results might take 2-4 weeks to show up. Do not drop the medication in between.
- If you have had a personal or family medical history of bipolar disorder, glaucoma, kidney disease, liver disease, seizure disorder, abuse of alcohol, or high blood pressure, inform your doctor before starting with this medication.
- If you develop suicidal thoughts, or sudden mood changes, consult your doctor immediately.
- Do not crush, break or split the Dutin capsules.
- Keep this medication away from kids and pets.
- If you are a diabetes patient, keep a check on your blood sugar levels regularly, while being on this treatment.
Prohibit the intake of alcohol and marijuana, as it may lead to extreme sleepiness and drowsiness.
