Dydrogesterone 10mg Tablets are used in the treatment of miscarriage and fertility. It is known with the name Duphaston all over the world.
Uses:
- It is given in combination with Estrogen in menopausal hormone therapy.
- Duphaston is also used to treat irregular periods due to low progesterone hormone.
- It is sometimes given in pregnancy when women have low progesterone levels.
How does it work?
Dydrogesterone 10mg Tablets is a selective progestogen and binds to the progesterone receptor (PR). It is an active drug given through the oral route of administration. Progesterone receptors contain two active forms of isomer known as PR-A and PR-B and the drug actively binds to these forms and shows its effects.
Dosage:
- Duphaston drug’s dosage depends on the age of the patient, that is why take it according to the doctor’s prescription
- The drug is administered as a 10mg tablet and can be taken with or without food.
- The dose of the drug also depends on the patient’s condition. For eg: if women need to be treated for irregular menstrual cycles the dose of the drug will be 10mg twice a day from 11th to 25th day of the cycle.
- Do not panic if you miss the dose. You can skip the dose of the drug if you remember it during the next dose. Remember that you should not take two doses at the same time.
Side effects:
- The common side effects of Dydrogesterone 10mg Tablets include nausea and headache
- You may observe painful menstrual cycles, breast pain etc., in some cases.
- Sensity reactions, jaundice, stomach upset and fever are rare. If it occurs you should immediately consult your physician.
Contraindications:

- Driving should be avoided because you may feel dizziness after the administration of the drug.
- You should not consume alcohol while on this medication. It may show some serious effects on the body.
- Drugs should not be given until there is a necessity for pregnant women as it may cause toxicity to the foetus.
- It is avoided in the lactating mother as a small amount of the drug is excreted in the milk.
