Drug Name: Mometasone 0.1% Cream, Lotion, Ointment
Details
Mometasone 0.1% Cream, Lotion, Ointment is a Topical Corticosteroid agent. It contains mometasone furoate for topical use. Elocon is the international brand name for this drug. And in India, it is available under the brand Dermanex.
Purpose:
- Mometasone 0.1% Cream, Lotion, Ointment is used to treat skin conditions such as rash, eczema, allergies, and psoriasis.
- Elocon also decreases redness, inflammation, and itching.
- Pruritic manifestations are also treated with this cream.
Mechanism:
This corticosteroid acts by the process of induction of phospholipase A3 inhibitory protein ls. It inhibits the release of precursor arachidonic acid.
Dosage:
- Strictly as prescribed by your doctor.
- Apply a few drops of Dermanex on the affected area.
- An applicator can be used to apply if your hands are not clean.
- For effective results, apply Mometasone 0.1% Cream, Lotion, Ointment before going to bed.
- If self-administered, 30 grams of this cream is more than enough for an individual of the age of 3 months to 65+.
- The cream should be removed after 8-14 hours with water.
- It should be massaged into the skin.
Side effects:
- Stinging
- Redness
- Burning and rashes
- Oozing
- Itching
- Pruritus
- Erythema
- Numbness
- Common side effects of this lotion are nausea, vomiting, fever, dizziness, diarrhea, and abdominal pain.
- There are rare chances of an allergic reaction to this cream. If it happens so, consult your doctor right away.
- Very minimal seizures have been reported due to the use of this ointment.
Precautions and measures:
- Avoid scratching your skin as it may lead to a serious skin infection.
- Toddlers younger than the age of two years shouldn’t be treated with Mometasone 0.1% Cream, Lotion, Ointment.
- It is only prescribed for skin usage.
- Avoid getting this cream in contact with your mouth, eyes, nose, or vagina. If it happens so, clean it with running water.
- You might need a complementary medication if you experience itching in excess, ask your doctor about the same.
- Pregnant and lactating women are advised to know the risks and benefits from their doctor and only then use it under his/her prescription.
- If you’ve been using any herbal/non-herbal products lately, inform your doctor.
- Do not increase, decrease or stop the medication at your own ease.
- Always use an applicator to apply the cream to the affected area.
- It should be stored at room temperature of 25°C.
- Keep the medication of Dermanex away from moisture, light, and dampness.
- This cream should not be kept in reach of pets and children.
- Do not use expired medication.
Interactions:
People on medication of tuberculosis, perioral dermatitis, and viral infections of the skin, should not include Dermanex in their schedule.
