Desloratadine 5mg Tablets are Antihistamine and Anti Allergic agents. The active ingredient in this drug is Loratadine. Internationally this medicine is known by the name Clarinex. In India, it is available under the brand name D-Loratin.

 

Purpose:

  • Desloratadine 5mg Tablets relieve allergy symptoms such as the runny nose, sneezing, watery eyes, itching nose, and hives.
  • Ocular itching, nasal discharge, and burning are also treated by Clarinex.
  • Chronic urticaria and other allergic dermatological disorders can be cured with this medication.

Mechanism:

D-Loratin is a non-sedating, potent-long-acting, tricyclic antihistamine, with selective peripheral receptor antagonistic activity, which does not readily penetrate into the Central Nervous System.

Dosage:

  • Strictly as prescribed by your doctor.

The recommended dosage of Desloratadine 5mg Tablets for effective results is:

  • For adults and children of 12 years of age and older: one tablet, daily.
  • For children of age 2-12 years, weighing more than 30 kgs: one tablet, daily.
  • For children of age 2-12 years, weighing less than 30 kgs: half tablet, daily.

 

Side effects:

  • Common side effects of these tablets are nausea, dizziness, sleepiness, diarrhea, lightheadedness, dry mouth, fatigue, and vomiting.
  • Serious side effects of D-Loratin are pharyngitis, somnolence, dysmenorrhea, tachycardia, palpitations, dyspnea, pruritus, psychomotor hyperactivity, hepatitis, and elevated liver enzymes including bilirubin.

 

Precautions and measures:

  • Diabetic patients are advised to consume Desloratadine 5mg Tablets with caution.
  • This product contains lactose; thus patients with rare hereditary problems of galactose intolerance, or glucose-galactose malabsorption should not take D-Loratin tablets.
  • This drug is no more likely than a placebo to cause sedation.
  • It should be discontinued approximately 48 hours prior to skin testing procedures since antihistamines may diminish or prevent otherwise positive reactions to dermal reactivity indicators.
  • Pregnant and lactating women should consume this drug under the strict guidance of their doctor.
  • The safety of this drug has not been established in children under the age of 2 years.
  • Limit your intake of alcohol and marijuana.
  • Do not use expired medication.
  • Keep it away from kids and pets.
  • Store it at room temperature.
  • Do not increase or decrease the dosage at your own ease.
  • Do not crush, break, or split the tablet.

 

Interactions:

  • Prevent the consumption of Ketoconazole, Erythromycin, and Cimetidine simultaneously with these tablets, as it can lead to reverse working of the original medication.

Certain laboratory tests such as allergy skin testing might produce false results if it is done along with the tenure of this drug.
