Cisplatin 10mg, 50mg Injection is a cell cycle non specific anti cancer drug belonging to platinum analogue.

Cisplatin (cis-diamminedichloroplatinum[II]) is an inorganic metal complex which affects all cycles of cell division.

It is effective in a wide range of solid tumors.

It can be used as both single drug therapy and in combination with other chemotherapy drugs.

Mechanism of action: it acts by binding to DNA through the formation of intrastrand and interstrand cross-linkage leading to inhibition of DNA synthesis and function. It also binds to cytoplasmic and nuclear proteins which increases cytotoxic effects.

It is available as Platinol in International and as Cytoplatin in Indian markets.

Uses

  • Cisplatin 10mg, 50mg Injection in combination with Pemetrexed is approved for the first line of treatment of mesothelioma and non-small cell lung cancer.
  • Platinol is used in small cell lung cancer, esophageal and gastric cancer, cholangiocarcinoma, head and neck cancer, and genitourinary cancers like testicular, ovarian and bladder cancer.
  • In combination regimens, cisplatin-based therapy cures nonseminomatous testicular cancer.

 

Dosage

  • Cisplatin 10mg, 50mg Injection comes as vials containing white to light yellow lyophilized powder for reconstitution and administered slowly by intravenous infusion by healthcare professionals only.
  • Reconstituted solution of Cytoplatin is a clear, colorless to slight yellow liquid.
  • Unopened vials are stored at room temperature till expiry and reconstituted solution if also stored at room temperature for 20 hours only.
  • Final doses are determined by the doctor on the basis of pre existing medical condition , ongoing medications, age, weight and any allergy.
  • Doses and infusion rate are also modified according to dose related side effects

Precautions

  • Cisplatin 10mg, 50mg Injection is contraindicated in case of allergy to platinum.
  • Close monitoring is required for signs and symptoms of renal and hepatic toxicity, low blood cell count, cardiac disorder and neurologic toxicity.
  • Proper hydration is required before the treatment.
  • Leakage of Cytoplatin from the injection site causes severe tissue injury so it must be administered by a healthcare professional only.
  • Always tell the doctor about pre-existing medical conditions, ongoing medications, any history of allergic reaction, pregnancy , future plan of pregnancy and pregnancy.

Cytoplatin must not be used in pregnancy and breastfeeding mothers as it causes harm to fetus & infants.
