Remdesivir 100mg Injection is used to treat patients suffering from Corona virus infection. The infection is caused by SARS-CoV-2 virus. This injection is given to hospitalized adults and children.

Usage:

Covifor is an injection that contain drug named Remdesivir. It is an antiviral. This injection is administered to hospitalized adults and children who are 12 years of age. Also they should weigh at least 40 kg.

Availability and Dosage forms:

Remdesivir 100mg Injection is available in the liquid form as well as Lyophilized powder form. The powder is reconstituted with liquid and administered intravenously. It is available in sterile vials containing 100 mg/20 ml Remdesivir.

Dosage:

Remdesivir 100mg Injection is administered into veins. The injection is given over a time period of 30 to 120 minutes.

  1. Usually given daily for 5 to 10 days.
  2. Can also be given as:
  • Two doses of 100 mg Covifor injection on the first day
  • Single dose of 100 mg Covifor injection for 2-5 days.

The length of the treatment is not limited to this. Although dosing after 5 days is not suggested. However, it depends on the response of the body of the patient.

Information to be shared by the patient:

There is no such list of medicines that should be given to the patients prior to the administration of Remdesivir 100mg Injection. However patient needs to tell their health Care professionals about the below listed information:

  1. If you have any allergies specially related to remdesivir drug.
  2. If you are pregnant or plan to be pregnant.
  3. Suffering from heart disease or any other serious illness.
  4. Have kidney or liver problems.
  5. Are on any kind of medications such as vitamins, natural or herbal supplements.

If you are taking chloroquine phosphate or hydroxychloroquine sulfate.

Side effects:

There are some common side effects which can be experienced by the patients. Also some side effects can be serious. Patients need to tell their doctor if they experience any of the below listed problems:

  • Allergy
  • Rashes
  • Nausea
  • Vomiting
  • Shivering and sweating
  • Trouble in breathing
  • Swelling in face, tongue or throat
  • Dizziness/ low blood pressure
  • Increased heartbeat

    Precautions to be taken:

    Since there is no solid cure for COVID-19, Veklury injection has been approved by U.S. Food and Drug Administration under emergency use authorization (EUA). Also Drug Controller General of India (DCGI) has approved this drug for the treatment of COVID-19 keeping in consideration the current situation.

    In case of a patient who is pregnant or breastfeeding, health care providers must check on before administering Veklury, as there is very limited knowledge about how it will affect the mother mad baby.

    Also patients with serious diseases should be taken special care while treating with Covifor.
