Mycophenolate mofetil aka MMF, is a semi synthetic derivative of mycophenolic acid, derived from fungus Penicillium glaucus.

Mycophenolate mofetil is hydrolyzed to mycophenolic acid, the active immunosuppressive and synthesized and administered as MMF.

Mechanism of action: MMF acts by inhibition of synthesis of purines leading to inhibition of T- and B-lymphocyte action hence lowering the immunity of the body.
