Doxorubicin HCl 2mg Injection is a red, clear, and sterile solution which is an anthracycline type of chemotherapy. Internationally, it is known by several names such as Caelyx, Doxil, Myocet, and Adriamycin.

Purpose:

  • Caelyx is an Anti Cancer drug.
  • It stops or slows down the growth of cancer cells.
  • Doxorubicin HCl 2mg Injection also treats women with axillary lymph node involvement.
  • This injection is used as a medication for the resection of primary breast cancer.
  • Other conditions for which this drug is used are metastatic soft tissue sarcoma, metastatic thyroid carcinoma, metastatic gastric carcinoma, metastatic bronchogenic carcinoma, metastatic transitional cell bladder carcinoma, metastatic ovarian carcinoma, metastatic bone sarcoma, metastatic breast cancer, metastatic Wilms tumour, Hodgkin lymphoma, non-Hodgkin lymphoma, acute lymphoblastic leukaemia, and acute myeloblastic leukaemia.

 

Mechanism:

There is an interaction of Doxorubicin HCl 2mg Injection with topoisomerase II to produce DNA-cleavable complexes in the body, which stops the growth of cancer cells.

 

Dosage:

  • The recommended dose for Doxil when used as a single agent is 60-75mg on the gap of 21 days.
  • If the same drug is administered in combination with other chemotherapy medications, it should be between 40-75mg on the gap of 21-28 days.
  • Above 550mg are cumulative doses that are associated with an increased risk of cardiomyopathy.

 

Side effects:

  • Common side effects of Myocet injection are: diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite, and headache. However, in some cases, vomiting and nausea can be severe.
  • Other serious side effects of Caelyx are: reddish color and not blood in tears, urine, and sweat. It is likely to begin just after the injection is injected and can last quite long.
  • Hair loss is very common when being treated with this drug.
  • Nail changes such as fungal infections in nail beds.
  • If you experience any chest pain, painful sores on the lips, severe sunburn, radiation recall in the lungs, or trouble in breathing, consult your doctor right away.

 

Precautions and measures:

  • If you’re allergic to Lincomycin, this medication is not for you.
  • Any medical history of neutropenia, anemia, gout, idarubicin, kidney problems, or stomatitis should be properly informed to your doctor before getting on this medication.
  • You’re not advised to get any vaccinations or immunizations done during the tenure of Adriamycin.
  • To lower the risk of bleeding gums, use a soft-bristle toothbrush.
  • For preventing the spread of infections, wash your hands thoroughly.
  • Doxorubicin HCl 2mg Injection can affect fertility in males and menstruation in females. Discuss the risks for the same with your doctor.

Caelyx has been established to pass into breast milk and hence breastfeeding should be avoided, or the medication should be avoided during the lactation period.
