Drug Name: Betamethasone 0.10% Skin Cream

This cream is used to treat skin conditions. It works by the activation of natural substances in the skin to reduce swelling. Betamethasone 0.10% skin cream is a thick and greasy ointment. It is made up of betamethasone valerate; where 1.2mg of betamethasone valerate equals 1mg of betamethasone. It is available in India as well internationally by the brand name Betnovate.
PURPOSE:
- Skin conditions like allergies, rash, dermatitis among others are treated with betamethasone cream.
- Mainly Betnovate is used to cure eczema and psoriasis in which skin gets dried, itchy, and develops red patches.
- It can also be used to prevent inflammation of the skin.
DOSAGE:
- Betnovate should be applied once or twice daily if self-administered.
- If prescribed by a doctor, go as per his/her instructions. Do not increase or decrease the frequency on your own.
- Signs of betterment should be visible during the second week of this betamethasone 0.10% skin cream medication.
- Clean the affected area first and then apply a thin layer of betamethasone gently.
- It is not generally suitable for toddlers, however, a short course of two weeks may be prescribed by a dermatologist.
SIDE EFFECTS:
- Thinning of skin, acne, permanent stretch marks and rosacea might be visible if Betamethasone 0.10% skin cream is used for too long.
- If used by toddlers and children, they may face delayed weight gain in which case the doctor should be consulted.
- Signs of severe rash, redness, or swelling.
PRECAUTIONS AND MEASURES:
- This product might contain inactive ingredients, which can cause allergic reactions, therefore before being prescribed this medication inform your doctor or pharmacist if you’re allergic to any corticosteroids.
- If you are getting any serious surgery or operation just after the use of this medication, inform your doctor about the same.
- This medication during pregnancy should be used only when necessarily needed.
- Similar medications have been known to pass into breast milk. Therefore lactating women should consult the doctor before getting on this medication.
- Betamethasone medication has been prescribed to you and should only be used by you.
- Do not use the same medication of Betnovate in the future if confronted with a similar skin condition. Consult the doctor first and only then put it to use.
STORAGE:
- Betamethasone 0.10% skin cream should be stored at room temperature of 25°C.
- Keep it away from moisture, light, and dampness.
- Keep it away from pets and children.
- Do not use expired medication.
INTERACTIONS:
Some corticosteroids such as prednisone taken by mouth might interact with this drug, and therefore both of these should not be consumed together.
