Purpose

Bacillus Calmette-Guerin (BCG) strain: 40mg per ml (between 1 – 8 x 10⁸ CFU) Vaccineis for the usage of percutaneous areas. It is used for the treatment of flat urothelial cell carcinoma in situ (CIS) of the bladder. It is also used as an adjunct for the therapy of post and recurrent superficial papillary urothelial cell carcinoma (stage Ta, T1). The vaccine is available in the international brand name of Oncotice and the Indian brand name of BCG ONCO BP VACCINE (INTRAVESICAL).

 

Composition

Oncoticevaccine vials consist of bacillus Calmette-Guerin 40mg/ml and have in between the 1-19.2x 108 colony forming units called (CFU).

 

Measures and precautions

  1. The route of administration of the BCG Onco BP Vaccine (Intravesical) is through intravesical instillation. No other means of consumption should be entertained with this.
  2. One instillation of Bacillus Calmette-Guerin (BCG) strain: 40mg per ml (between 1 – 8 x 10⁸ CFU) Vaccineshould be 80-120mg only.
  3. The instillation should start atleast two to three weeks after the transurethral resurrection of the bladder tumor (TURBT)
  4. The injection’s one instillation should be given per week for 6 weeks.
  5. The maintenance of the BCG Onco BP Vaccine (Intravesical) should be one instillation per week for 3 weeks after every 6 months till 36 months.
  6. The dose should be consumed under strict medical supervision only.
  7. Do not try to overdose the Bacillus Calmette-Guerin (BCG) strain: 40mg per ml (between 1 – 8 x 10⁸ CFU) Vaccine as it is harmful to the body.
  8. Do tell the doctor about any type of allergies you have before instilling the vaccine.
  9. Pregnant women and breastfeeding women should take extra care for the instillation of the vaccine. It should be given in emergency only.
  10. If the side-effects persist for a longer time, do consult the doctor for that.

Interactions

Storage

The intact vials of theBCG Onco BP Vaccine (Intravesical)should be stored in the refrigerator at a temperature of 2-8 degrees Celsius.  The vials should not be exposed to direct sunlight. And the product or medication should not be consumed after expiry.
