Entecavir 0.5mg, 1mg Tablets are used for the treatment of long-term Hepatitis B infection. This is an infection of the liver. It is categorized under an Antiviral drug, which belongs to the class of hepatitis B virus nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors. Baraclude is the universal name of these tablets by which they are available in the medical market.

Purpose:

  • Entecavir 0.5mg, 1mg Tablets stop or prevent the growth of the Hepatitis B virus.
  • Long-term infection can lead to liver failure, liver damage, or in rare cases, cancer of the liver. These tablets help in their inhibition.

 

Dosage:

  • Recommended dosage of these tablets in adolescents up to the age of 16 years is 0.5 mg once daily.
  • Recommended dosage of Baraclude in people above the age of 16 years is 1 mg once daily.
  • People who have decompensated liver disease are also advised to consume 1 mg tablet once daily.
  • Toddlers and children with less than 30kg weight should consume 0.5 mg tablet once daily.
  • Toddlers and children above the weight of 30kg should consume 1 mg tablet once daily.

 

Side effects:

  • Common side effects of Entecavir 0.5mg, 1mg Tablets: diarrhea, dyspepsia, nausea, vomiting, fatigue, headache, dizziness, somnolence, insomnia.
  • Lactic acidosis: nutrition and metabolism disorder.
  • Rash and alopecia: subcutaneous tissue and skin disorder.
  • Increased transaminases: hepatobiliary disorder.
  • Anaphylactoid reaction: immune system disorder.
  • Severe Acute exacerbations in patients who discontinued the treatment without being completed.
  • Hepatomegaly
  • Steatosis

 

Precautions and measures:

  • If you’ve medical history of kidney disease, HIV, or have taken any kind of hepatitis B drugs taken in the past, inform your doctor about the same before starting with Baraclude tablets.
  • Avoid marijuana and alcohol consumption. These tablets can make you dizzy and consuming the above products can lead to extreme tiredness.
  • To decrease the spread of hepatitis B to others via yourself, use barriers such as dental dams, latex or polyurethane condoms during sexual intercourse.
  • During pregnancy, it should only be consumed when necessarily needed. Discuss the risks and benefits of the medication with your doctor.
  • Lactating mothers should avoid consumption of Entecavir 0.5mg, 1mg Tablets.
  • Children less than the age of 2 years should not be given Baraclude.
  • Patients of hemodialysis and creatinine clearance are safe to take this drug.
  • If there is a case of overdose, the patient should be observed for evidence of toxicity.

Do not start, stop or discontinue the treatment without the approval of your doctor.
