Purpose

Co-trimoxazole (Sulphamethoxazole 200 mg + Trimethoprim 40 mg per 5 mL) Suspension are used for the treatment of

• Urinary tract infections
• Traveler’sdiarrhea
• Pneumocystis carinii pneumonia
• Ear infections
• Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA)
• Bronchitis

The medication comes under the brand name Bactrim, which is famous in the pharma market. The medicine is also available in generic forms.

 

How does it work?

Co-trimoxazole (Sulphamethoxazole 200 mg + Trimethoprim 40 mg per 5 mL) Suspensionare the combination of two antibiotics: sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim.  These two antibiotics work by controlling the growth of infectious bacteria in the host body. the active ingredients in these suspensioninhibit the growth of various bacterial infections.

 

 

Measures and precautions

1. Bactrim suspension are usually prescribed for the treatment of bacterial infections in the body.
2. The suspensionis effective against infectious bacteria only. It does not work in the case of viral infections.
3. Bactrim suspension can be consumed as per the directions of the doctor. The usual consumption is once or twice a day.
4. The doses of this medication depend on the patient’s medical conditions and response towards it.
