Azelaic Acid 10%, 20% cream is an Anti-Acne agent. It belongs to a class of drugs called Acne Agents, Topical. The active ingredient in this cream is azelaic acid, which is a naturally occurring saturated dicarboxylic acid. Internationally, this cream is known by the name of Finacea. And in India, it is available under the brand name Aziderm.
Purpose:
- Azelaic Acid 10%, 20% cream treats symptoms of mild to moderate Rosacea and Acne Vulgaris.
- It reduces the size of already grown pimples.
- Acne-causing bacteria is killed by Azelaic Acid 10%, 20% cream, and prevents pimples or spots from appearing.
- Inflammation and redness of the skin are also treated by this medication.
Mechanism:
Finacea cream reduces the amount of acne-causing bacteria on the skin and helps the pores to remain unblocked and open. This results in a reduction of acne.
Dosage:
- Strictly as prescribed by your doctor.
- The recommended usage for effective results is once a day until you see effective results.
- The amount taken on the finger to apply should be equal to the size of a pea.
- For the most effective results, this cream should be applied before going to bed.
Side effects:
- Common side effects of Aziderm cream are irritation, dryness, rash, peeling, dermatitis, erythema, and contact dermatitis.
- Rare side effects observed are vitiligo depigmentation, worsening of asthma, hypertrichosis, small depigmented spots, keratosis pilaris, and exacerbation of recurrent herpes labialis.
- Some people might experience hypopigmentation, which is the lightening of skin color. Consult your doctor for any kind of skin color changes.
Precautions and measures:
- If severe irritation or itching is experienced due to the use of Azelaic Acid 10%, 20% cream, it should be dropped in between and appropriate therapy should be administered.
- Pregnant and lactating women are advised to undergo this medication only under the strict guidance of their doctor.
- It is meant for your external use only.
- If the cream gets into your eyes, mouth, or nose by any chance, wash it with plenty of water.
- Always apply with your clean hands or use an applicator.
- Apply only on the affected area.
- Wash your skin before applying the cream and pat it dry.
- If you’ve sensitive skin, increase the frequency of applying Aziderm cream only after being on this medication for a week.
- Keep it away from the direct source of light.
- Store it at room temperature.
- Do not use expired medication.
Interactions:
Do not use Aziderm cream simultaneously with any other Anti Acne cream, gel, powder, or tablets, as it may only increase the amount of acne on the affected area.
