Bevacizumab 100mg Injection are anticancer drugs. This drug is used in the treatment of colon and rectal cancer i.e., colorectal cancer. It is known as Avastin all over the world.

 

Uses:

  • It is used in the treatment of lung cancer and breast cancer.
  • It is also used to treat eye infections.
  • Avastin is also used in the treatment of ovarian cancer.

 

How does it work?

Bevacizumab 100mg Injection belongs to angiogenesis inhibitors. When the drug is administered into the body it acts by inhibiting theĀ  (VEGF) vascular endothelial growth factor resulting in the inadequate supply of oxygen to the cancerous cells by blocking the blood vessel formation.

 

Dosage:

  • Is given through an intravenous route of administration. The dose of the Avastin drug depends upon the condition of the patient and as prescribed by the doctor.
  • It is given as a single dose vial of 100mg/4mL.
  • The dose of the drug is adjusted by the physician and given under his guidance. The patient should be monitored thoroughly.
  • Do not self administer this drug and consult your doctor if you miss any dose.

 

Side effects:

  • The common symptoms of the Bevacizumab 100mg Injection include dry mouth, swelling, loss of appetite, constipation, taste differences, severe headache. These symptoms will disappear after your body adjusts with the drug.
  • Gum infections, flaky skin, vomiting mouth ulcers are observed.
  • Troubled breathing, weight gain, muscle cramps, back pain inflammation in the body can be seen and the patient needs to consult the doctor.
  • Rectal bleeding, hypertension can be seen due to long term use of the drug and patients need to consult the physician immediately.

 

Contraindications:

  • Avastin is contraindicated in lactating mothers as these drugs may harm foetus because small amounts of drug pass into breast milk.
  • This drug is contraindicated in patients who have a serious bleeding disorder.
