Atomoxetine 10mg, 18mg, 25mg, 40mg Capsules and 10mg tablets are Antipsychotic agents. These belong to the category of selective norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors. They are known by the name of Stattera internationally. And in India, they are available under the brand name Attentrol.

Purpose:

Stattera is indicated for the treatment of Attention Deficit Hypersensitivity Disorder (ADHD), in children 6 years of age and older, adolescents, and adults.

 

Mechanism:

Atomoxetine 10mg, 18mg, 25mg, 40mg Capsules and 10mg tablets are thought to be related to selective inhibition of the presynaptic norepinephrine transporter, as determined in neurotransmitter depletion studies and ex vivo uptake.

 

Dosage:

• Strictly as prescribed by your doctor.
• Initial treatment of children and adolescents up to 70 kg body weight: 0.5 mg, to be increased to 1.2 mg after three days.
• The maximum recommended dosage is 100 mg for adolescents.
• The regular treatment should start with 40 mg and be increased to 80 mg after three days, in adolescents.
• People above the weight of 70 kg, should consume 100 mg.

 

Side effects:

• Common side effects of Atomoxetine 10mg, 18mg, 25mg, 40mg Capsules and 10mg tablets are nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, fatigue, irritability, decreased weight and appetite, headache, and dizziness.
• Severe side effects of Attentrol tablets are hyperhidrosis, dysmenorrhea, erectile dysfunction, dysuria, urinary hesitation, sleep disorder, paraesthesia, somnolence, and decreased libido.
• Other rare side effects can be Qt prolongation, syncope, rhabdomyolysis, lethargy, Raynaud’s phenomenon, and anxiety.
• If any of these above-mentioned effects persist for long, consult your doctor right away.

Precautions and measures:

• If you have a medical history of the adrenal problem, glaucoma, heart stroke, prostate problem, high blood pressure, psychosis, bipolar disorder, liver disease, or depression, inform your doctor before starting with Attentrol tablets.
• Consumption of Atomoxetine 10mg, 18mg, 25mg, 40mg Capsules and 10mg tablets can result in extreme dizziness and sleepiness, hence, limit your consumption of alcohol and marijuana.
• A child’s growth rate, final adult height, and weight might be affected due to the prolonged intake of this drug. The doctor might stop the medication from time to time to prevent this from happening.
• If an increase in hostility or aggression is noticed, drop the medication in between and consult your doctor.
• Do not increase or decrease the dosage without the consultation of your doctor.
• Do not use expired medication.
• Store it at room temperature.
• Keep it away from kids and pets.

 

Interactions:

A fatal drug reaction can be caused if Attentrol is consumed along with MAO inhibitors.
