Purpose

 Atorvastatin5mg, 10mg, 20mg, 40mg, 80mg tablets are available in the market under the brand name Atorva.  It is also available in the international market as Lipitor.The medication falls under the category of Dyslipidemic agents. Atorvastatin5mg, 10mg, 20mg, 40mg,80mgTabletsare also used to reduce the risks of stroke and heart attacks in people consuming them.  The tablets are taken together with regular exercises and well-planned diet and weight loss measures.

 

How does it work?

The medication works by lowering the low-density lipoprotein (LDL), also known as “bad” cholesterol in the body, and increasing the “good” cholesterol levels at the same time. Atorva improves the patient’s body’s ability to get rid of the bad cholesterol through the action of the liver.

Measures and Precautions

  1. For regulation of dyslipidemia (cholesterol problems), the drug is prescribed in doses of 10-20mg in the initial phase which varies with the condition of patients. It also has the typical maintenance dose of10-80mg.
  2. Younger children below the age of 18 should not take these tablets as they are harmful to them. However, the Atorva tablets are given to children of age group 0 to 17 years to treat heterozygous familial hypercholesterolemia. The dose for this is only 10mg once per day.
  3. When consuming theAtorva pills, avoid drinking a large amount of grapefruit juice, which can build more cholesterol in your body that can cause muscle breakdown.
  4. Avoid alcohol while consuming the Atorvastatin5mg, 10mg, 20mg, 40mg, 80mg Tablets, as they increase the risk of liver problems in the body.
  5. Patients with liver dysfunctions should not take these tablets as this can cause them severe problems.
