Aripiprazole is an atypical antipsychotic drug sold under the brand name Abilify worldwide. It is available in variants of 2mg, 5mg, 10mg, 15mg, 20mg, and 30mg tablets. In India, it is known by the name of Asprito.

PURPOSE:

  • Aripiprazole 2mg, 5mg, 10mg, 15mg, 20mg, 30mg tablets are mainly used to treat the major depressive disorder, schizophrenia, and bipolar I disorder.
  • Abilify is also prescribed for the treatment of Tourette and irritability caused by autistic disorder.
  • Used to treat mental disorders.
  • Consumption of this medicine has shown positive results where patients experience no scary psychotic rage or hallucinations in schizophrenia.

DOSAGE:

  • Adult (18-64yrs) dosage starts at 10-15mg once per day and can go up to 30mg once per day as per the severity of the disorder.
  • Child (13-17yrs) dosage starts at 2mg once daily for two days, then 5mg once daily for two days, and then takes 10mg once daily.
  • Child (0-12yrs) dosage hasn’t yet been proven safe and effective.
  • People suffering from liver and kidney problems are put on customized medication, where their dosage is constantly controlled by doctors as per their requirement of disorder treatment.

SIDE EFFECTS:

  • The more common side effects of Asprito include vomiting, constipation, nausea, muscle stiffness among others. If these effects appear to be mild, it is not a matter of worry, for they’ll go away in a couple of weeks.
  • Some serious side effects can be strokes, seizures, compulsive behaviours, orthostatic hypertension among others. If the patient feels such symptoms are life-threatening, he/she should immediately visit the doctor.

PRECAUTIONS AND MEASURES:

 

  • Reports of feeling sleepy after consuming Aripiprazole 2mg, 5mg, 10mg, 15mg, 20mg, 30mg Tablets have been released and therefore it is advised not to drive or do anything else that could be dangerous after taking this medicine.
  • This is an antipsychotic drug and therefore should not be self-administered, increased, or decreased as per the convenience of you.
  • Consume a good amount of fluid, especially in summers, to stop fluid loss.
  • Patients ailing with previous disease(s), pregnant and lactating women should provide a full history of their health condition to the doctor so that he/she provides you with the most effective medication.

STORAGE:

Aripiprazole 2mg, 5mg, 10mg, 15mg, 20mg, 30mg Tablets should be stored at 25°C and excursions are permitted between 15°C-30°C.

 

INTERACTIONS:

  • There can be increased side effects of nausea, constipation, or dizziness if it is consumed with antifungal drugs.
  • If taken with anti-seizure drugs, the effect of Asprito can be reduced on curing the disorder.

Avoid taking quinidine and Aripiprazole together as it can lead to a life-threatening condition of neuroleptic malignant syndrome
