Anastrozole 1mg Tablets are used in the treatment of breast cancer in postmenopausal women. This drug is also used as first-line therapy for advanced breast cancer. It is known as Arimidex all over the world.

How does it work?

Anastrozole 1mg Tablets belong to non-steroidal aromatase inhibitors. It is observed that breast cancer cells grow faster due to a natural hormone known as estrogen. So, when the drug is administered into the body it acts by inhibiting the estrogen hormone and lowers the estradiol concentrations which results in inhibiting the growth of cancer cells.

 

Dosage:

  • Drug dose depends on the condition of the patient that is why take it according to the doctor’s advice.
  • Read the instructions carefully present in the tablet leaflet or patient information leaflet (PIL) before taking Anastrozole 1mg Tablets.
  • The recommended dose of the drug is 1 mg per day taken orally.
  • It is taken with or without food. Do not chew, crush, or break the tablet. Swallow it wholly.
  • There is no need for dose adjustment in patients who are diagnosed with renal and hepatic impairment.
  • Arimidex tablets should be taken regularly and at the same time for effective results.

 

Side effects:

  • The common side effects of Arimidex Tablets include headache, dizziness, upset stomach, constipation, sudden weight gain, weakness.
  • Allergic reactions such as itching, rashes, irritation may be observed.
  • Bone inflammation or pain, muscle spasm, troubled breathing, swelling in the body, vaginal bleeding, blurred vision are serious side effects that indicate medical help.
  • Chest pain, weakness on one side of the body, slurred speech, etc are rare conditions that need medical attention immediately.

 

Contraindications:

  • Let your doctor know if you have any allergic reactions to the drug or its active constituents present in the Anastrozole 1mg Tablets.
  • Alcohol consumption must be avoided during the treatment with this drug.
  • It may harm the fetus due to the intake of this drug. Hence, it should be avoided in pregnant women.
  • Avoid using these medications if you were previously diagnosed with myocardial infarction as Arimidex shows harmful side effects for cardiovascular disorders.
  • It should be avoided in the patients who have high cholesterol effects as the intake of these drugs may cause increased effect in serum cholesterol.
  • Dizziness is observed due to the intake of these drugs. Hence, driving is avoided after the administration of the drug.

These drugs should be avoided by premenopausal women.
