Anastrozole 1mg Tablets are Anticancer drugs. These tablets are nonsteroidal aromatase inhibitors. Internationally, they are known by the name of Arimidex. And in India, these are available under the brand name of Anabrez.

Purpose:

  • Adjuvant treatment of hormone receptor-positive early breast cancer in women who have experienced menopause.
  • Anastrozole 1mg Tablets are used for first-line treatment for metastatic breast cancer.
  • Treatment of advanced breast cancer followed by tamoxifen therapy.

 

Mechanism:

Anastrozole 1mg Tablets lower the production of a female hormone which is estrogen in the body. This lowers or stops the growth of breast cancer cells that grow with the help of estrogen. It significantly lowers serum estradiol concentrations.

 

Dosage:

  • Use Anabrez strictly as prescribed by your physician/doctor.
  • The recommended dosage for effective results is 1 mg once daily.
  • Patients with advanced breast cancer should continue Arimidex until tumor progression.
  • The dose can be consumed with or without food.

 

Side effects:

  • Common side effects of Anabrez are headache, upset stomach, vomiting, hot flashes, disturbed sleep pattern, nausea, sore throat, weight gain, diarrhea, and tiredness.
  • Musculoskeletal side effects: arthritis, arthralgia, osteoporosis, arthrosis, and myalgia.
  • Respiratory side effects: pharyngitis, dyspnea, bronchitis, and sinusitis.
  • If you experience unusual vaginal discharge, stiffness, symptoms of depression, severe abdominal pain, dark urine, or yellowing of the skin, visit your doctor right away, before the situation worsens.
  • Temporary hair loss.
  • Increase in cholesterol levels.

 

Precautions and measures:

  • If you have had a medical history of heart attack, bone loss, high blood pressure, liver disease, or blood clots, inform your doctor before starting with Anastrozole 1mg Tablets.
  • Prohibit or at the very least limit your intake of alcohol and marijuana, as it can cause extreme dizziness and sleepiness.
  • If you’ve not gone through menopause, Anabrez tablets are not meant for your consumption.
  • This medication must not be used by pregnant ladies as it is absorbed by the lungs, which can cause harm to the unborn baby.
  • Take it at the scheduled time every day, for effective results.
  • Do not crush, break or split these tablets.
  • Keep them away from the reach of kids and pets.
  • These tablets should be stored at room temperature.
  • Do not use expired medication.
  • Do not increase, decrease or stop the medication at your own ease, without the consultation of your doctor.
  • An increased incidence of cardiovascular mishaps has been noticed in patients consuming this drug.

 

Interactions:

Avoid using Estrogen, Tibolone, and Tamoxifen based products or medicines as they can produce negative effects on the body.
