Glimepiride is an anti-diabetic oral pill, also known by the brand name Amaryl.

Uses

  • Glimepiride 1mg, 2mg, 3mg Tablets is used by patients suffering from type 2 diabetes mellitus in the combination of proper diet and exercises.
  • Amaryl belongs to the sulfonylureas class of drugs.  It lowers the blood sugar level by inducing the release of your body’s natural insulin.

How To Take

  • Take Amaryl by mouth with breakfast or the first main meal of the day, as directed by your doctor.
  • It is advised to take it regularly for good results. To avoid forgetting, take it at a particular time every day.

Dosage

  • The treatment starts with the recommended dose of 1 mg or 2 mg once per day with breakfast or the first main meal of the day.
  • After reaching a dose of 2 mg per day, your doctor might increase it by 1 mg or 2 mg based on your blood sugar levels. They may also increase your dose every 1 to 2 weeks until your blood sugar levels are controlled.
  • The maximum dosage can be 8 mg taken once per day but it should be taken according to the doctor’s prescription.

Side effects

Glimepiride 1mg, 2mg, 3mg Tablets do not cause sleepiness, however, you may experience some alternative side effects.

The common side effects caused by it include:

  • Headache
  • Nausea
  • Dizziness
  • Weakness
  • Mood changes, like irritability, impatience, anger, stubbornness, or sadness
  • Confusion, together with delirium
  • Lack of coordination
  • Nightmares or crying come in your sleep
  • Seizures
  • Unconsciousness

Precautions

    • It should not be taken by patients suffering from type 1 diabetes insipidus under any circumstance.
    • Taking Amaryl is not advised if you have an allergy to sulfa drugs or have diabetic ketoacidosis (blood becomes acidic).
  • Before starting the treatment, tell your doctor about all the health problems that you have or had in the past including heart disease, liver or kidney disease, or an enzyme deficiency called glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency (G6PD).
  • Try to lower your stress levels, it may be harder to control your blood sugar when your body is stressed (due to fever, infection, injury, or surgery).
  • Limit alcohol while taking Glimepiride 1mg, 2mg, 3mg Tablets as it can increase your risk of developing low blood sugar.
  • This medication may increase your sensitivity to the sun, so. limit your sun exposure time.
  • Older people may be more sensitive to the side effects of this drug, as it can cause low blood sugar.

During pregnancy, this medication should be used in utter emergency and by the approval of your doctor. Pregnancy may cause or worsen diabetes.
