Details
Losartan 25mg, 50mg, 100mg Tablets belong to the class of Angiotensin Receptor Blockers. It is known by the name of Cozaar internationally. In India, it is known by the name of Alsartan.
Purpose:
- Cozaar tablets are indicated to treat hypersensitivity (high blood pressure).
- It lowers the risk of strokes in patients with an enlarged heart.
- It is also used in the treatment of heart failure, renal protection in type 2 diabetic patients with proteinuria, and reducing cardiovascular morbidity.
Mechanism:
Alsartan tablets and their active metabolite block the aldosterone-secreting and vasoconstrictor effects of angiotensin. This allows easy and smooth flow of blood to all organs inside the body.
Dosage:
- Strictly as prescribed by your doctor.
The recommended dosage of Losartan 25mg, 50mg, 100mg Tablets for effective results is:
- For hypertension: 50 mg once daily, for 3-6 weeks.
- For cardiovascular morbidity: 50-100 mg once daily.
- For heart failure: 12.5 mg once daily, can be increased to 25 mg if needed.
- For type 2 diabetic patients: 50 mg once daily.
Side effects:
- Common side effects of Alsartan tablets are nausea, dizziness, vomiting, sleepiness, lightheadedness, diarrhea, and fever.
- Serious side effects of Losartan 25mg, 50mg, 100mg Tablets are anemia, depression, somnolence, paresthesia, migraine, vertigo, tinnitus, urticaria, impotence, edema, dyspnea, atrial fibrillation, syncope, and sleep disorders.
- If any of the above-mentioned side effects persist for long, consult your doctor right away.
Precautions and measures:
- In patients being treated with a high dose of diuretics along with Losartan 25mg, 50mg, 100mg Tablets, might face symptomatic hypotension.
- If you have had a medical history of liver disease, or dehydration, inform your doctor before starting with this medication.
- Limit your intake of alcohol and marijuana as it can lead to extreme dizziness and sleepiness.
- Do not crush, break, or split the tablet.
- Store them at room temperature.
- Keep them away from the reach of kids and pets.
- Do not increase or decrease the dosage at your own ease.
- Get regular tests of creatinine, urea, and potassium in your blood.
- Rise slowly if you’ve been lying or sitting for quite a long time.
- For the best and quick results, take this drug at the same time every day.
- Within 6 hours of consuming this drug, effects can be seen.
Interactions:
Drugs that can interact with Alsartan tablets and produce negative effects are Aliskiren, Benazepril, Lithium, Drospirenone, and Lisinopril. Hence, they should be avoided.
