Brimonidine 2mg Eye Drops is an Antiglaucoma agent. It is known by the name of Alphagan worldwide. It reduces the high pressure in the eyes.

Purpose:

  • Brimonidine 2mg Eye Drops treat open-angle glaucoma.
  • They are also used to treat high fluid pressure in the eye.
  • It also prevents vision loss, blindness, and nerve damage.

 

Mechanism:

Alphagan reduces the pressure by allowing better fluid drainage from within the eye. The amount of fluid formed in the eye is also regulated by them.

 

Dosage:

  • Use it as strictly prescribed by your doctor.
  • The recommended dosage for effective results is once a day, daily.
  • Do not pour more than one drop in each side of the eye as it will only cause harm.
  • Lie down for one minute after you’ve used the drops and close your eyes.
  • If you’re currently using any other eye medication, have a gap of at least 15 minutes between that one and Brimonidine 2mg Eye Drops.

 

Side effects:

  • Common side effects of Alphagan are itching, and redness in the eye and around it.
  • Serious side effects include darker skin color around the eye, change in color of the iris, blurred vision, inflammation, dryness, worsening of vision, sticky eyes, darker eyelashes, swollen eyelids, retinal bleeding, cystoid macular edema, hair growth around the eyes, eyelid twitching among others.
  • If any of the above/mentioned effects occur due to the usage of these Eye Drops, stop using them and visit your doctor as soon as possible.

 

Precautions and measures:

  • Always pour the eye drops as per the number of drops prescribed by your doctor.
  • Make sure your hands are clean while pouring.
  • If by any chance, Alphagan drops get in your mouth or nose, clean it immediately with plenty of water.
  • Do not abruptly stop using them as the pressure in your eyes could increase or damage your eyesight.
  • Remove your contact lenses while pouring these eye drops.
  • Put your lenses back after 20 minutes of using these eye drops.
  • Inform your doctor if you have had a medical history of blood vessel disease, cerebral or coronary insufficiency, kidney disease, liver disease, severe heart disease, or orthostatic hypotension, before starting with this treatment.

 

Interactions:

  • Some drugs that contradict with Brimonidine 2mg Eye Drops are Atenolol, Timolol, Metoprolol eye drops, Digoxin, Clonidine, Terazosin, and Amitriptyline.

Avoid consuming products that result in drowsiness such as cannabis, alcohol, muscle relaxants, sleeping pills, opioid pain relievers, and antihistamines.
