Oxaliplatin 50mg, 100mg Injection is one of the platinum analogs that belongs to the cell cycle non specific (CCNS) anticancer drugs.

It is an inorganic complex having cytotoxic effects and kills cancer cells in all stages of cell cycle.

It is a third-generation diaminocyclohexane platinum analog.

It is effective in a wide range of solid tumors.

Mechanism of action:it acts by getting hydrolysed inside the cell leading to intrastrand and interstrand DNA cross-linking.This results in death of the cancer cell by inhibition of DNA synthesis and function of cancer cell. It also affects nuclear and cytoplasmic proteins which increases the cytotoxicity of this drug.

Uses

• Oxaliplatin 50mg, 100mg Injection is now approved as first-line treatment of metastatic colorectal cancer along with fluoropyrimidine 5-fluorouracil (5-FU) and leucovorin ( as FOLFOX regimen and with capecitabine as XELOX regimen.
• Eloxatin is also used in the FOLFOX regimen as adjuvant therapy of stage III and high-risk stage II colon cancer.
