Frequently Asked Questions

1. What is Tykerb (Lapatinib) used for?

Tykerb contains lapatinib, a kinase inhibitor used in combination with other medicines for certain patients with HER2-positive advanced or metastatic breast cancer. Depending on the treatment setting, it may be used with capecitabine or letrozole. The appropriate combination depends on the patient’s cancer characteristics and the applicable treatment guidelines.

2. How does Tykerb (Lapatinib) work?

Tykerb works by inhibiting HER2 (ErbB2) and epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) tyrosine kinase activity. By interfering with these signaling pathways, lapatinib can inhibit signals involved in the growth and survival of certain cancer cells.

3. What strength of Tykerb tablets is available?

Tykerb is available as 250 mg tablets. Lotus International lists Lapatinib 250 mg Tablets on its Tykerb product page. The exact packaging, quantity, and market availability should be confirmed with Lotus International when making a pharmaceutical supply enquiry.

4. How is Tykerb administered?

Tykerb is an oral tablet taken once daily, with the dose depending on the combination therapy. Current U.S. prescribing information specifies 1,250 mg once daily with capecitabine for certain HER2-positive metastatic breast cancer patients, or 1,500 mg once daily with letrozole for certain hormone receptor-positive, HER2-positive metastatic breast cancer patients. Tykerb should be taken at least one hour before or one hour after food, and the daily dose should not be divided. Treatment should be prescribed and monitored by a qualified healthcare professional.
