Details
Letrozole 2.5mg Tablets are Anti Cancer drugs. The active ingredient in these tablets is Letrozole, which is a nonsteroidal aromatase inhibitor. They are odorless and practically insoluble in water. Femara is the universal name of these tablets by which they are available in pharmacies.
Purpose:
- It is meant for the treatment of women post their menopause with hormone receptor-positive with early breast cancer.
- Women who have received 5 years of adjuvant tamoxifen therapy can also be treated with them for the early stage of breast cancer.
- Women at an advanced stage of breast cancer post their menopause with antiestrogen therapy are treated with Femara tablets.
Mechanism:
Letrozole 2.5mg Tablets prevent breast cancer from coming back. They also decrease the amount of estrogen hormone that the body makes and also helps to reverse or slow the growth of cancer. Prevention of the production of unnecessary estrogen inhibits the development of breast cancer.
Dosage:
- As prescribed by your physician/doctor.
- The recommended dosage for effective results is one tablet, in a day, with or without food.
- The median duration of this treatment has been established to be 5 years.
- Women with advanced breast cancer should continue the intake of Letrozole 2.5mg Tablets until tumor progression is evident.
- Women with renal or hepatic impairment require no adjustment in dosage.

- Back pain
- Headache
- Hot flashes
- Constipation
- A decrease in Bone Mineral Density (BMD)
- Serious side effects of Femara can be Hypercholesterolemia, Arthritis, Myalgia, Vaginal bleeding, Edema, Irritation in the vagina, Osteopenia, Depression, Anxiety, Breast pain., Anorexia, and Endometrial hyperplasia. If any of these is experienced by you, consult your doctor right away.
Precautions and measures:
- Letrozole 2.5mg Tablets can be absorbed through the lungs and skin, therefore, pregnant women should not consume this and breathe the dust from these capsules.
- If you have any development of new breast lumps, visit your doctor immediately.
- These tablets are not meant for pediatric use.
- Inform your doctor about any medical history of cholesterol, osteoporosis, osteopenia, stroke, blood clots, heart attack, kidney or liver problems, or high blood pressure, if you have had any.
- Femara can lead to dizziness and blur your vision and consuming alcohol or marijuana at the same time can worsen the situation. It is advised to prohibit alcohol and marijuana consumption during the tenure of this treatment.
- Do not use birth control methods that are estrogen-based.
If you become pregnant or there are even minor chances of getting pregnant, discuss it right away with your doctor.
