Inactivated Influenza Vaccine (Split Virion) is used to prevent the infection caused by the influenza virus. Another name for this vaccine is the seasonal flu shot. It is a manmade laboratory creation that does not contain live viruses, so it can not cause the flu. This vaccine is known by the names Fluarix and Fluvirin all over the world. It is purified by the process of diafiltration.

Mechanism:

After getting vaccinated by the Influenza vaccine, in almost 2 weeks, the body will start producing antibodies and act as a shield to stop the influenza virus from entering into the body.

 

Purpose:

• It boosts the immunity and prevents the influenza virus’s entrance into the body.
• Infections that attack the nose, lungs are the main focus of treatment by Fluarix.

 

Dosage:

• The preferred time period to get the Inactivated Influenza Vaccine (Split Virion) is from September to November because these months are the beginning of flu season.
• Children between the age of 3 and 8 yrs should ideally get 2 doses, 0.5ml each at a gap of one month.
• People aged 9 yrs and above should get one dose of 0.5ml.

• Injection site abscess
• Rhinitis
• Tonsillitis
• Respiratory distress
• Bronchospasm
• Urticaria
• Vasculitisarin
• Lymphadenopathy

• Tachycardia
• If any of the side effects of Inactivated Influenza Vaccine (Split Virion) gets fatal, you should consult your doctor right away.
• If you experience trouble in breathing, seizures, or vision changes after taking Fluarix, report to your doctor immediately.

Precautions and measures:

• Always shake the syringe well before use.
• Do not mix this vaccine with the syringe of any other vaccine.
• Caps of prefilled syringes contain rubber latex, which can be a source of an allergic reaction.
• There are possibilities of birth defects while getting vaccinated with Fluarix during pregnancy.
• Any negative reactions during previous vaccines should be reported to the doctor and only then get this vaccine done.
• People who are immunosuppressed might experience a lower immune response.
• Fluvirin is not meant for infants below the age of 6 months.
• The injection should be administered under the skin or into a muscle.
• It may not provide full protection to each of the people getting this done.
• Keep it away from kids and pets.

 

Interactions:

Patients who have had a history of Anaphylaxis should not be vaccinated with Inactivated Influenza Vaccine (Split Virion).
